what template are you using? The top dropdown menu would normally be a module, so simply unpublish it. The top menu may be in a module position called "top", "navigation", "menu" (it would vary template to template).
Your site menu/tree links list would also be a module, I assume, published to a template position "left column" (or whatever it might be called).
